APY lands in South Australia.
Born in Amata in 1966, where
she now lives, she has recen tly
taken u p painting.
Artwork | This painting depicts
Maisie’s co un try, the different
co lou rs a nd designs representing
variatio ns in the landscape. The
sy mbols painted by Maisie all
have significant meaning, from
the circles representing both
waterholes and campsites, the
‘ U ’ shapes representing people,
and the arc lines standing for sand
du n es an d/or ceremo nial sites.

of the still-life genre, her paintings

Nellie paints from her studio
in Freman tle, an d exhibits with
sell-o ut shows throu ghout Australia,
France, England and Singapore.
Artwork | “I’m fascinated by
the simple, timeless things
I see ever y day,” Nellie says.
“The colours and textures of
fruit, the shine o n an enamel
jug, the patina of well-worn
u ten sils, tabletops an d wi ndow
ledges catching the mo rni ng or
aftern o on light... In my painting,
I try to capture this feeling of quiet
co ntemplation . And if my pictures
evoke in the viewer a sense of
tran quillity an d balan ce, then
I’m satisfi ed. Or satisfi ed, at least,
u ntil the n ext pai nting.”
