architectu ral project in A sia is the new Tales
Pavilion , a multi-bran d design er hub in B eijing’s
Lido Ga rden . Nichetto w rapped the ex terior of
the showro om in ove r 1200 brass tubes, shaped
like blades of grass, that will chan ge colou r over
time, in a bid to give an urban natural vibe to the
stru cture. Tales Pavilio n is the fi rst to ho st, amon g
others, bran ds such as Fosca rini, Kristalia, B okja

China’s premier city just hosted its third B eijing Design Week , a citywide celebration of work s by mo re
than 1000 designers, both local and international. In Dashilar, a traditional hutong (courtyard) district,
the fo cu s was on i mproving u rban living co ndition s thro u gh small-scale inter ven tio ns. Zha ng Ke’s
Sta ndardarchitectu re team created a cluster of glass-fro nted plywood ro oms j utting out over a co ur tyard;
indu strial design er Michael Yo u ng rethought the tradition al public toilet; and French designer Matali
Crasset based herself in a former co mmu nity centre an d invited the n eighbou rs – kids i n particular –
over for colo u rful creative collabo ratio ns. The projects are o ngoi ng an d will be reassessed du ring Design
