FIVE MINUTES WITH SAM FAZZARI,
What trends can we expect in the year ahead?
We have seen an injection of colour and playfulness in some of the
collections out of Europe, a nd the focus on a ‘less is more’ approach to
designing. Kettal is releasing some new collections in the new year, and
while it is all under wraps at the moment, we are told that there are some
amazing new announce ments a nd collections to come.
What’s new in store?
We currently have Park Life, Jasper Morrison’s latest collection for the
o utdoor furn iture co mpa ny Kettal, which is from B arcelo na, Spain .
Tell us about the collection.
Having travelled to Milan earlier on in the year, we had the opportunity
to meet with Jasper. We really loved his philosophy on design and
the intentions behind it. He is such an amazing designer and is the
leading figure of New Simplicity, which is a movement advocating
a more modest approach to design, and which highlights the beauty
in the simplicit y an d usef ulnes s of prod ucts . Coupling Mor rison’s se lf-
confessed obsessive perfectionism (once, he took four years to design
a fork) with the supreme quality of Kettal (one of the best outdoor
companies in the world), the collaboration was always going to
birth an amazing, high-quality and iconic range, and that is what
I feel the Park Life collection delivers. It’s an understated, timeless
collection of furniture that fits well into its environment without
disrupting its surroundings.
What’s your favourite piece from the range?
I really love the whole collection and how each individual item from it
sits so effo rtlessly, both within itself an d in co mbin atio n with other pieces
from the Kettal collection.
What do you look for when it comes to picking brands and ranges
for your store?
We like to work with companies that have a high level of quality, have
a good design direction and, where possible, a good history to rely on.
Kettal is all of these an d we are rea lly happy to be working with such
a great brand. It’s one of the forerunners and innovators in regard
to outdoor furniture, the materials used for it and the new direction
that o utdoo r furn itu re has taken ove r the last nu mber of years, sin ce
Patricia Urquiola designed her first ever outdoor collection for it.
Living Edge has partnered with French contemporary interiors brand La
Chance. Its collection is the latest addition to Living Edge’s assor tment
of products, bringing with it fu n ction al pieces that blu r the lin es bet ween
art and furniture. Standouts from the range include the Apollo lamp, Bolt
sto ol an d the Climb shelving system. Visit livingedge.com.au .
