NEW STUDIOS FOR
While the ar tists occupying The Wa rd
studios in Leederville were evicted earlier
this year due to the sale of the building,
Artso urce has opened a new complex
n earby on Douglas Street. At the time
of going to press, 21 a rtists had already
settled into the n ew studios.
An exhibition of esoteric art that
Robert Buratti of Buratti Fine Art
curated in 2012, Windows to the Sacred,
has been picked up by the National Trust
of Australia. The collection of works will be
displayed at the SH Ervin Museum in Sydney
from late August until September, before
going on national tour.
“ I n many ways, the exhibitio n has tapped the
cu rrent internation al fascin atio n with
the esoteric gen re,” says Rober t Bu ratti.
“A s the root of symbolism, su rrealism an d
other movements, Esoteric A rt has caught
the eye of cu rators overseas. The in clu sion
of A leister C rowley into this yea r’s Ven ice
Bie nn ale is a great example.”
The exhibition w ill includ e Aleiste r Crowley ’s
Nightmare Painting s, ne w compositions by The
Tea Party musician Jeff Martin, a new series of
original work by Alex Proyas — director of The
Crow and Dark City — and work from local Perth
artists who make up part of the experimental art
group Collective777. August 30-September 29.
