Da mien Hirst, John B aldessari, Ma rin a Abra mović an d... Clark Beaumo nt.
Who’s that? The collabo rative B risban e a rtists S arah Cla rk and Nicole
Beaumont, both in their early 20s, were handpicked for 13 Rooms – a group
exhibition of ‘living sculptu re’ featu ring the aforemen tio n ed world-fa mo us

(from London’s Serpentine Gallery and the Museum of Modern Art,
New York , respectively) we re un in spired by a list of suggested Australian
performan ce a rtists, then they stumbled a cro ss the girls’ wo rk on YouTube.
And the rest is art history.

ART THAT MOVES
Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts director A my Barrett-Lennard
on genre-defying performance work Opal Vapour.
“ The beauty of this wo rk is that although in spired by tradition al art fo rms,
it is ex tremely con temporary in natu re. D rawing on the ar tists’ Au stralian
a nd Javanese ancestry, Opal Vapour seamlessly marries different cultures,
rituals, dance a nd music tradition s.
“Jade performs an overwhelmingly powerful dance (in sand!), the shadows
of which are simultane ously re corded an d projected to lum inous eff ect. The
wor k is accompa nied by Ria’s hau nting voice, and live a nd recorded music.
“We love offering new experiences for audiences, ones that are often
genre-defying and which derive from a range of cultural perspectives. The
sell-out shows we enjoyed during Fringe World demonstrate how much
people love contemporary performance. The works we are presenting will
continue to bust the myth that theatre or performance is boring and stuffy.”
