Perched atop a cliff between the bush
and bay just north of Sydney, Cliff
Face House is a showstopper on all
levels of design.
A collaboration of talents between
Fergus Scott Architects and Peter
Stutchbury Architecture, the house is
grounded by a layered sandstone rock
face, which is particularly prominent
in the lower-level bathroom space.
Abundant with moss and ferns, it forms
the length of the shower wall and a natural
backdrop opposite glass doors that look out
to stunning views.
The shower’s fine copper plumbing
lines are exposed and fixed into the rock,
offering a raw, edgy element that perfectly
complements the natural, pared-back feel
of the space.
The light-filled space and natural
materials combine beautifully to create
a sanctuary that promotes relaxation.
The restrained palette connects with
the beautiful landscape in which the
home is set, and places f ull attention
on the stone feature.
This home was the winner of
the National Award for Residential
Architecture – Houses, at the 2012
National Architecture Awards.
