Shanghai-based Sharon Leece has written China Style, China Modern
and China Living to showcase China’s design sce ne, plus is editor-at-large
for AD (Architectural Digest) China magazine.
More and more designers in China are combining good ideas with innovative
technologies. Whether it’s Shanghai’s Jamy Yang with his mass-produced
T-Box, or Hong Kong-based Michael Young with his aluminium Bramah
lights, their inquiring minds are looking to China and its manufacturing
expertise to realise their productions. Also helping to boost designer
creativity and recognition are platforms such as October 2012’s Beijing
Design Week which hosted an impressive array of design events across
the city. Highlights included the Campana Cashew Tree by Brazilian duo
the Campana Brothers in South Tiananmen’s Dashilar Alley, and architect
Yung Ho Chang’s Material-ism retrospective at UCCA in 798 Art District.
