suggestions of veiled meaning.
His painterly style, co mbined with
bold colo urs and metallic backdrops,

Motivated by the n eed to share
experien ces that stimu late him,
Darby combines his professio n as
a musicia n with his profession as an
ar tist, and based both on his love of
the A ustralian bu sh.
Artwork | Darby felt such a
co nn ection with the Black wood River
since meeting it 40 years ago that he
built a studio ove rlo oking it, in the
bush near Nan n up. From dro ught
to flood, it has been an enormous
source of inspiration. Blackwood
Song is Darby’s largest painting of
many co mpleted on the subject, the
scale allowing him to in cl ude so me
evocative po etry by Kevi n Gillam.
