Don Taylor from DTDA gives his personal
view of the project
What was it like winning the Building Design
Association (BDA) Award for the best
Residential Building Over 450sqm?
Having n ever en tered the awards before, it was
rewarding to have the design reco gnised by the
associatio n an d its members. The feedback o n the
award has been very encouraging, so we hope to
en ter again in the futu re. The own ers, as well, have
been pleased with the win .
What is your favourite feature of the residence?
The terrace cou rtyard has been a big success –
with the natu ral foliage a nd splashing of the
pon d it has bro ught the ho u se to life. The pergola
over the fro nt of the terrace also ca me together
nicely, with the bronze vine trellis adding a final
level of detail. It will be good to see the plan ting
once it is established.
Ever y house is a custo m design an d that always
brings up its own problems in detailing and
co nstruction that you have n ot faced befo re. We
were very happy to have David Biagioni at Biagioni
Ho mes o n side, who helped to deliver ou r ideas
with a superior level of quality.

09. The materials are the real stars of the
project, a palette of natural stone, timber,
white plaster and grey polished dado render
combined with oversized bronze aluminium
battens (by Exclusive Aluminium on steel
framework by Dezignform).
10. The residence was designed to truly
experience and encourage interaction
with the outdoors. Stacker doors open
to the courtyard and along the river side
of the room.
