They’re the artists collectors need to be paying more
attention to, but chances are you’ve never heard of them...

“I first saw Jacqueline’s work at Gallery
Central. The way she used the space –
with big works hung at different heights –
really activated it. She really seemed
to be thinking beyond the frame. And
the works themselves were also
impressive; huge in size and seemingly
abstract. What I came to realise though
was that they are in fact photographs
of real objects. She uses aluminium,
cardboard and paint to make elaborate
constructions, which are then shot in
studio. It’s a tightly controlled process,
less about photographing the real world
than constructing alternative worlds.
Interestingly, when Jacqueline talks
about her work she’s careful not to explain
it away. Keeping the mystery intact is
significant. As she intends, you can never
really tell what scale things are at, or
where an image might lead you; they have
a purposeful and powerf ul ambiguity. Their
scale, power and thoughtf ulness evidences
a strong work ethic – which might sound
strange – but I think they show someone
who knows what they’re doing. Jacqueline
is successful and is going to be even more
successf ul because of this vision. Her
approach is uncompromising, and she has
the ability and ambition to pull it off.”
