PORTRAIT OF A FINALIST
Local painter Daevid Anderson has bee n n amed a fin alist in the 2012
Shirley Han nan Natio nal Por trait Prize, wo rth $50,00 0. This follows his
first solo exhibition at Buratti Fine Art in April, and two previous finalist
e ntries in the Black Swan Prize for Por traiture.
Contemporary art is finding a new place in the city centre, with short-term
in stallation s a nd artist residen cies being u sed to invigorate vacan t spaces.
“ With so many n ew buildings, we’re receivi ng more requ ests for this so rt
of wo rk ,” says Nichola Zed, an a rt con su ltant at Artsou rce who is helping
co -ordin ate the initiatives. “ It provides a fan tastic oppo rtu nity fo r lo cal artists,
an d helps keep these spaces vital while waiting for ten ants to move i n.”

digital media, has been commissio ned to create a
fa ntastical space o n St Geo rges Terrace which will
be lit 24 hours a day.
