Fuorisalone is another great facade of iSaloni
and includes over 350 design presentations
and exhibitions outside of the fairgrounds and
around the streets of Milan. A true celebration
of design, the Fuorisalone has unparalleled
energy and creativit y. Different companies and
young designers participate in spontaneous
events across the city, turning the streets into
a launch pad of collaborations for young and
established designers and manufacturers.
World-famous Danish fabric company Kvadrat
saw its iconic fabric Hallingdal 65 take centre
stage at the exhibition in the Jil Sander
showroom . Kvadrat invited seven curators
to select designers from all over the world
to reinterpret the classic fabric, including
Barcelona-based outfit Mermelada Estudio.
Inspired by childhood, they created a very
original kids’ playroom (above), which was used
as the main image to publicise the event.
Hall 6 was the place to find the collaboration
between one of the world’s best designers,
Jasper Morrison, and the 84-year-old
Japanese furniture manufacturer Maruni
Wood Industry. The stand was designed by
Naoto Fukasawa, and showcased two designs :
Fukasawa’s Roundish, and Lightwood by
Jasper Morrison. T he very comfor table
Roundish chair embraces the sitter with its
cur ved back, and comes in a cushioned seat
version. The Lightwood collection, known for
its sculptural, light appearance, also added a
new counter chair and stool to the mix . Maruni
is available in Perth through Mr Smith.
