Home' Scoop Homes and Art : SHAA 32 Contents WARM REGARDS
This pendant is a stunning example
of the gemstone acrostic trend
that swept across Europe during
the early 19th century. A secret
code is enclosed in this rare 15ct
gold locket, which spells out the
donor’s sentiments for the wearer.
Six stones arranged in a particular
sequence – ruby, emerald, garnet,
amethyst, ruby and diamond –
spell out ‘regard’.
Beautifully finished marquetry and floral inlays
punctuate this French cabinet, circa 1910. Made
of tulipwood, it features fine brass detailing on
the handle, sides and feet.
