The hotel/fashio n co llaboration tren d
continues with La Maison, which recently opened
in Pa ris. The interiors of the ren ovated 200-yea r- old
building, fo rmerly the Maison des Cen traliens, have
been designed by Maiso n Mar tin Margiela.
The Margiela trademark aesthetic – quirky, stron g,
clean -lin ed architectu ral – is eviden t thro u ghout the
interior, notably the 17 Couture Suites which all
have a unique look. Located at the heart of the
French high-fashion precinc t, off the Champs
Elysée 8 Rue Je an Gouj on, 75008 Paris,
MEANWHILE ACROSS THE CHANNEL...
Renzo Pia no has designe d a hillside conve nt next to the reve red Le Corbusier
chapel Notre Dame du Haut at Ronchamp, France. The new home to 12 Poor
Clare Sisters – a project overshadowed in scale and budget by other Piano
proje ct s, including the £ 140 million ($216m) Sha rd in London – is a moder n-d ay
example of the tight conn ection and heritage of great architects/architecture
and the church. The brief was to create a peaceful environment, whose discreet
beauty complements the chapel at the heart of the nunnery complex. Its concrete
vault curves in two planes where a concealed window channels a halo of light into
the interior. Building with a palette of concrete, timber and zinc, the Piano team
designed and crafted every last detail, from chairs to light switches. rpbw.com.
