Now u nder the auspices of director
Massimo Torrigia ni, this year’s
regen erated SH Con tempora ry Art
Fair was abuz z w ith sales, collectors
and energy. With about 90 galleries
taking part – 50 per cent of them
Chinese – Torrigian i put the spotlight
firmly on mainland galleries (think
Beijing Art Now, Boers-Li, Pekin
Fine Arts, Shanghart and Tang
Co ntempo rar y, amon g others). The
idea was that while Shan ghai is more
often seen as China’s co mmercial
capital, it has what it takes to be a key
ar t-scene player. And as collectors
flocked to enjoy a host of openings
and events across the city, one
thing was clear: Shan ghai is back .
Baroque-tiger, Ya n Lei ,
2010, was exhibited.
The furniture at Chunzai
perfectly blends old and new.
