Kitchens & bathrooms
Kitchen profile | Fantasy island
ith a large adult family to
cater for, the owner of this
home required a kitchen
that was highly practical,
offering a space where more than one
person could cook at a time. The kitchen
area is extremely spacious, however, the
client didn’t want to have to walk long
distances while preparing meals.
Sue Jansen, of The Kitchen Factory at
Home Base Subiaco, created a cooking area
based at one end of the island, which is
accessible from both sides, as are the sinks,
which use a centrally placed tap. The hot
plates included a teppanyaki plate for
quick snacks and fun meals, while a
custom-built rangehood is centred over
the top of the cooking plates.
Ovens, fridges, pantry and crockery
storage are located directly behind the
main cooking plates, which minimises
walking distances. A small dishwasher
to service small loads was placed in the
island, along with a Zip tap for hot water,
which negated the need for a kettle.
The large scullery attached to the
kitchen features stainless steel tops and a
large dishwasher that caters for cleaning
up after main meals. The storage for
grocery items and an appliance centre was
also included in the scullery, so that the
island can be kept clear of any clutter.
The finish of this kitchen was to tie
in with the contemporary design of the
house, which had been built using finished
concrete walls and stone floors.
The benchtop is constructed using
Corian Rain Cloud, while the timber
island is set with a stainless steel inlay. The
cabinets are a combination of white satin
lacquer and timber veneer Eurofiamia.
