LIFE IN A BARRN
Motivated by requ ests fro m clients
fo r cu sto m- made pieces, interio r
design er Peter L am has lau n ched a
new furniture collection called Ba rrn,
in spired by Eu ro pea n style circa
1950. His furn itu re, rugs a nd mirrors
are a bit retro and a bit modern, with
clean -lin ed shapes that are fresh an d
fun. We love the interlocking Kub
shelving system (left), the oval Bach
coffee table and the curvaceous
Stuart armchair. barrn.com.
HOTEL GETS SHOOK UP
Kuala Lumpur’s fashionable restaurant Shook! has opened on Shanghai’s Bund.
Diners come as much to enjoy the location inside the former 1906-built Palace
Hotel – now called The Swatch Art Peace H otel – as the food. Orbit Design
came up with the sleek, 80 -seat dining room with an open kitchen that serves
Euro pean, Chinese, Japanese and So uth-East Asian dishes . T he roof terrace
has g reat views over the H uan gpu River. shookrestaurantshanghai.com.cn.
For 25 years, De Gournay’s
wallpapers have been designed
in the UK, hand-painted in Wuxi,
then shipped overseas. The new
Shanghai showroom (the first in
China) lets shoppers get first-hand
access to the prints, many inspired
by 18th century Chinoiserie.
Mater ials s uch as silk are dyed or
gilded, then h and-painted in a
block print style. degournay.com.
