he flat, dry landscape around
Campos on the island of
Majorca is dotted with stone
farmhouses. Sa Pedra Redona,
set in 12,000sqm of orchards and olive
groves, is one. Part rustic, part modern
and set against a backdrop of liquid-blue
skies ‘melting’ into farmland, it’s home to
photographers Ka rl and Vikki Gra nt.
When they travelled from London five
years ago to scout locations on this Spanish
island, they didn’t expect to fall in love
with and buy a century-old home in the
countryside. Not immediately, anyway.
Seeing this one proved fateful, however,
when they found a detached photographic
studio at the back of the main stone house.
The previous owner, also a photographer,
had built the 130sqm studio with five-metre
ceilings, but hadn’t finished it. While just
a raw shell with concrete flooring, the
structure was sound – it was somewhere
they could work from and also rent out for
