To make the most of views of Lake Monger
and the outdoor lifestyle in Perth, the
owners of this property wanted to create
indoor-outdoor spaces to link the living
and dining areas to the rear deck.
Ian Rodgers of 10a Architecture says
kitchens are the nerve centre of the home,
a place where decisions are made, meals
are made and people get together.
With this in mind he set to work on
creating a functional space that could
be used to entertain a large number of
family and friends, which was also just
as comfortable for a casual family
breakfast at the island bench.
Bringing home the indoor-outdoor
connection, and in line with the current
design mood, the palette emphasises
natural materials. The use of natural
timber veneer complements the decor of
the adjoining lounge and dining areas. The
finishes, such as the timber flooring, also
reflect those of the external palette, where
timber was used extensively.
Still following the natural theme but
adding character and a touch of luxury, are
benchtops in a classic marble finish.
The kitchen ‘wall’ behind the island
functions as a utilitarian space with
a step-in pantry, large double-door
fridge, sink and oven.
The style of this kitchen is contemporary
without the severity or coolness of a
minimalist design, and features cabinetry
by International Cabinets, American
Walnut Natural Timber Veneer by Laminex,
iGuzzini Lighting from Mondoluce, Bianco
Carrara Marble from Bernini, and a selection
of appliances from Harvey Norman.
