Janine. Further colour was introduced in
the walls and plants, while a rustic water
feature adds the final touch to the cohesive
design. Tiled in bronze glass mosaics with
a golden fleck that picks up the light, and
completed with a copper-fi nish ceramic tile
and copper spouts, the water feature also
picks up the warmth of the timber decking.
The resulting garden, which was
accomplished in about three months,
has gained a worthy place in Janine’s
yet-to-be-released book. Still untitled,
the book is about small-garden design and
will be published in 2012 by Murdoch Books.
Not only will it offer people inspiration,
but also real direction on what to consider
when designing a small garden. “Houses
are getting bigger,” says Janine. “Gardens
are getting smaller, so it’s becoming more
important to actually have some outdoor
space that really feels like a garden.”
She says the book is all about how to
make a garden fit with a house, rather than
having a garden that’s the style of the day.
And of huge importance to Janine is the
extended introduction, which talks about
sustainability for the small garden. I
