Title A Balloon the Shap e of Australia
Wafted Away on the Breeze
Artist Jane McKay is a Perth artist who
has held 19 solo exhibitions in locations
including Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Los
Angeles, Singapore and Kyoto. Jane has
also participated in various international
group shows and has been the recipient of
eleven grants and numerous commissions.
Her work includes a diverse practice with
numerous public art projects, mosaics,
drawings, paintings, jewellery and
sculptural pieces. She has also published
two books for children.
The ar twork A Balloo n the Shape of
Aust ralia Wafted Away on the Breeze is
a work of imaginative whimsy where the
landscape is depicted in rich, dynamic
colour, conveying a sense of fun and folly
while asking impertinent questions about
our future. Skilfully executed in style,
structure and perspective, it conveys
a sense of the absurd as it strives for
meaning beyond the boundaries of logic.

Title The Night Snake
Artist Campbell Whyte is a 25-yea r-old,
Perth-born artist who works in painting,
comics, video and installation art. He is
currently a recipient of the Young People
and the Arts Fellowship through the DCA.
Since graduating from university he has
taken part in residencies in San Francisco
and Mexico, held four solo exhibitions and
has featured in numerous group shows.
Campbell is ar tist in residen ce at the
Western Australian Museum.
The ar twork The Night Snake will
be featured in Campbell’s upcoming
exhibition New Perth. In an axonometric
landscape, two shaman figures make
sacrifices to a snake outside the Perth
Coll ege chapel. Pai nt has bee n applied to
the Belgian linen in watery layers, staining
the fabric, rather than sitting on top of it.
From this vortex, shapes and patterns are
pulled out and sharpened. Glitter, pencils,
textas and pen are then used to finish.
