Marcio Kogan is famed for his holistic indoor-outdoor
design approach – using architecture, interior design
and exterior elements to pull all zones together and
create the one integrated lifestyle home.
Mariana Simas of Marcio Kogan
Architects shares her style secrets.
Aside from the outdoor area, what were the main
considerations for this home? A cosy family house
where the owners could gather all their friends.
What do the wooden panels add to the structure?
To soften the concrete structure and shade the
internals without stopping the cross-ventilation.
Are there any environmental considerations? It
is extremely important that all the house has natural,
abundant lighting and cross-ventilation.
Any specific heating and cooling needs? Nothing
except for air-conditioning in the bedrooms.
Your favourite aspects in this house design? The
terrace and the swimming pool.
The house appears to sprawl over the site – is the
concept of the outdoor room dead and a holistic
approach evolving instead? Hopefully. Exteriors
and interiors are the same to us. We are the interior
designers on 99 per cent of our projects, we don’t
think of it as another thing. Regarding landscape
design, we work closely with them.
