2000, with both a master bedroom and an
open-plan kitchen and dining area opening
out from the corridor.
White-painted Mini Orb (mini-corrugated
sheeting) walls and white timber ceilings
lend the bedroom a minimalist feel, enriched
by dark jarrah skirtings, ornate antiques
and paintings. e French country-style
ensuite has white timber walls and ceiling
and a freestanding bath.
" e whole house was pretty sparse
before Trish came," says Bob. "She's really
brought with her a feminine touch and
created a great deal of warmth."
e kitchen/dining area has cream tones
and splashes of colour unified by the jarrah
trimmings. Mini Orb walls again feature,
adding to the organic feel.
Opening out from the living area is an
enclosed outdoor room, which is being
reworked to make the space more useable.
" e room has one of the best views in
Darlington, so we've decided to remove the
dividing wall, and glaze the outer structure,
so that our main living area becomes one
giant space," says Trish.
"We have quite a little social scene with
our friends and neighbours over here," adds
Bob. "We all like to sit around with our glass
of red and talk to the chef."
e living area is home to the couple's
more personal artworks, including Bob's
first painting, Evening Walk.
Every structural aspect of the essentially
two-bedroom home, from the A-frame
(now used as a guesthouse) to the studio
and living room, is indicative of Bob's
approach to art, in that the natural
landscapes feature prominently and there's
no all-encompassing theme or style.
"We've basically tried to make the
home as friendly and inviting as possible,
while accommodating all the many
weird and wonderful things we've
collected along the way," says Trish.
"Our next project is to transform Bob's
old forge, where he'd make all his metal
works, into an entertaining room," she
adds. "Basically, we want to keep creating
spaces where we can make the most of these
beautiful surroundings." I
TOP Bob and Trish's ensuite protrudes out into the lofty green
heights. The decorative piece hanging over the bath was made by
Bob. LEFT White Mini Orb walls and jarrah floorboards lend a
simple palette for not only a restful ambience, but also to allow
Bob's art and the bush beyond to take centre stage.
