The CBD's 100 St Georges Terrace is the commercial
component of the 24-storey development that includes the
retail sector Enex 100. Bordered by the Bankwest Tower
and the heritage-listed Trinity Church, its design integrates
with the two vastly di erent buildings. Steel and glass
provide a contemporary facade and projecting sunshades
minimise heat consumption. Inside, minimal furniture and
colour, plus e ec tive light placements and signage create
a sense of space and bring subtle vibrancy to the lobby. A
large glass interpretive artwork sits against a feature wall
and can be viewed from the street. hamessharley.com.au.
AWARD The Je rey Howlett Award for Public Architecture. SPONSOR Davis Langdon.
The Resources and Chemistry Precinct at Curtin University was designed for the planning of laboratories that can be adapted
for future needs. Main routes and functional areas are on a 'central street', with stairs, lifts, toilets and meeting rooms. Natural
light is encouraged, but direct sunlight on lab benches is not (for safety reasons), so extensive sunshading is used. Interactive
visual artworks created by data from scientists and sta are electronically displayed on walls and ceilings. woodsbagot.com.
