This holiday home was built to maximise views of Injidup
Beach. The local council imposed stringent bulk and height
guidelines (no more than four metres above natural ground
level), resulting in a low, single-level residence. Built for an
extended family, bedrooms had to be in separate zones.
Exposed to the south-westerly breeze and afternoon sun,
two intimate, rammed-earth sleeping wings meet at a glazed
pavilion -- the main living area. A roof hovers over this area
and folds down to the western horizon to provide sun
protection. The main outdoor living areas are focused on the
north-east courtyard, with borrowed ocean views through
the glazed living area. All materials can deal with the harsh
environment -- rammed-earth walls, copper cladding and
large areas of glass. Exposed windows are protected by
operable external louvre blinds. wrightfeldhusen.com.
