Title: Waltzing Maurizio
Artist: Therese Howard graduated from
Curtin University in 2003. Since then her
painted bronze pieces have been eagerly
collected both in Western Australia and the
eastern states. She has had major exhibitions
at Sullivan & Strumpf in Sydney and
exhibited at Brenda May Gallery in Sydney.
The Artwork: This work is an exquisite
example of Therese Howard's constantly
imaginative, amusing, seductive and labour
intensive bronze work. Waltzing Maurizio
takes Maurizio Cattelan's Love Saves Life
piece and gives it a distinctly Australian t wist;
his donkey, dog, cat and rooster replaced
with a sheep, Tasmanian devil, echidna,
kookaburra and a blowfly. These Australian
icons sit atop a wind up music box, which
plays Waltzing Matilda.
Medium: Cold painted bronze, wire, organic
material, wood, sheoak veneer and
Exhibition: TEN: Acquisitions 2000 -- 2010.
