Australia from Zimbabwe in 1987. She
completed an arts course through TAFE
and then in 2003 a Bachelor of Arts

towards colour and an experimental
approach to building texture, Debbie
creates expressive abstract paintings
that resonate with an intense, free
flowing energy and emotion. Bold in
their composition, Debbie says she has
a deep joy of painting and finds it to be

blackboy resin to create a unique tone

Artist: Patrick Kunoth Pwerle is a Utopian
artist whose work reflects the quirky
observation of his parents, Dinni Kunoth
Kemarre and Josie Kunoth Petyarre. His
work explores the reductive potential of
figurative sculpture, while maintaining a
defiant connection to his homelands.
In his rugged carvings, the natural form
is given expressive precedence, creating
works of a totemic intensity.
The Artwork: With his move towards
sculptural abstraction, dispensing with all
unnecessary representational elements,
Patrick's works have developed a painterly
dimension that distances any suggestion
of naturalism. The bird sculptures present
a new youthful, unique view of the Central

Title: Aernout Mik: Touch, Rise and Fall
Artist: Aernout Mik is a Dutch video
artist whose work often captures a sense
of life's absurdity. From the hilarious to the
horrific, his portrayal of social interaction
is a poignant comment about what makes
The Artwork: Touch, Rise and Fall is a
two-channel video installation that examines
the operations occurring in and around an
airport security checkpoint. It's an interesting
comment on terrorism that's di erent to the
impassioned political speeches or horrifying
imagery often seen in news bulletins. By
contrast, this scenario seems repetitive,
mundane and yet eerily evocative.
