Title: Stur t Pea
Artist: Ian De Souza is a leading Western
Australian artist whose work has been
exhibited nationally and internationally.
His work is held in many corporate and
private collec tions, including those of the
Australian Broadcasting Commission,
Challenge Bank and Kerry Stokes.
The Artwork: In these latest works of
Western Australian floral forms, Ian has
developed a way of painting that allows
him to explore increased abstraction.
He combines the ancient Chinese art of
painting on rice paper with a tradition
breaking method of his own invention.
Ian is of Portuguese, Malay, Chinese and
Indian heritage. Merging a traditional
Chinese medium with his inventive method
adds a deeply personal dimension to the

Title: Kimono -- 1
Artisit: Carole Ayres has made a truly
remarkable contribution to the Western
Australian, Australian, and global art
scene. Since 1979, she has participated
in over 226 group exhibitions and 14 solo
exhibitions. In 1980, Carole's painting,
Woman of the Desert, was selected to
represent Australia in the Royal Overseas
Art Exhibition in London.
The Artwork: Butterfly forms and a
peaceful geisha give this work a feminine
aesthetic, while tones of ochre, gold and
green add depth. Carole has achieved a
textured look through mixed mediums,
complimented by contrasting floral prints
within the work.
