BRANS ANTIQUES & ART
Piece: Japanese Meiji-period bronze tiger
A 19th-century Japanese Meiji-period bronze recumbent tiger with inset tablet signature
to the base. During the Meiji period (1868-1912) the Japanese created some of the finest
objects and artworks ever produced. This is a particularly good example of a tiger from
the period as it displays the typically high standard of casting and after-cast detail the
Japanese craftsmen are renowned for. It is also a lovely model, depicting the tiger in a
very passive and relaxed pose. 30-34 Glyde Street, Mosman Park, (08) 9384 7300.
HOUSE OF RICHES
Piece: Belle Epoque diamond/pearl/platinum drop earrings
During the late 18th century, diamonds and pearls set in platinum were favoured for
their white-on-white colour scheme because it created a sense of refined elegance and
luxury. Decorative motifs on these earrings -- such as bows, ribbons, tassels and wreaths
-- show a Neoclassical and Rococo influence. Shop 4, 569 Stirling Highway, Cottesloe,
(08) 9384 3850, houseofriches.com.au.
