entrance. "We've woven it through the
landscape, so that it manifests itself in
different ways in different places," Jo says.
"I think it brings a nice organic feel."
A swimming pool at the rear of the house
forms a soft contrast, with mother-of-pearl
tiles casting a pale shimmer. " e owner was
worried the space might be dark because part
of the building goes over it," Jo explains.
"So, she requested something a bit lighter."
Nearby, blooming white flowers on
lagerstroemia trees (crape myrtle) and
leafy potted plants enhance the relaxed,
tropical atmosphere. It creates a picturesque
outlook visible from the courtyard through
glass balustrades. "We tried to make it very
seamless," Jo says.
A tiny garden near the entrance creates
another striking outlook, which is visible
through windows from the kitchen and front
door. Crushed rock covers the ground and
small spotlights shine on a water-filled urn,
bought by the owner in Bali. e oriental look
is complemented by bamboo growing along
the fence. "We tried to make a background
where everything is interesting," Jo says. "I
think it's a matter of coming up with outdoor
spaces that are hopefully a little different to
what everyone else has." I
