15. MOORES BUILDING
Title: One and One made One
Artist: Maris Raudzins is a Perth sculptor
who began in childhood, but became more
serious in the late 1960s. An underlying
theme in his work is the notion of duality
-- of things coming together and breaking
apart -- although this isn't a deliberate
pursuit. Using bronze allows Maris the
colours, textures, complexity and fluidity
of shape, while steel gives him the scale.
Truth to material is important to the artist.
The Artwork: Most of Maris' works are
autobiographical; his own life provides
enough inspiration without needing to
seek external or imagined subjects. The
latest series is of simple cubes and spheres
that depict how quickly life can change
via an unforeseen incident. And given a
rust finish they will always be in a state
of constant slow change -- reflecting the
nature of life.

lecturer teaching sculpture at WA
Central School of Art. He has

both as a lecturer and as an active

on the urban landscape. Working out
of his studio in O'Connor, Tony returns

The Artwork: This work demonstrates
a new direction in sculpture by Tony,
with the use of colourful painted
steel adding to the patina of recycled
materials often used in his work. The
new sculptures draw and build on the
close relationship he has with the marine
environment and its symbols, hardware
and artefacts. The art works respond to
the light, shadows and brilliant colours
of the landscape.

The Artwork: Delicate is one of a new
series of beautiful flower images by
Caroline. The photos are all taken in macro
setting, emphasising the detail and colour
of each flower. The sharp focus at the
centre of this image -- where the petals
are gradually spreading out into a deeper
purple -- makes it especially striking.
