The Artwork: Reflec ting the exotic
landscape Rob experienced on his recent
travels, By The Lagoon combines a tropical
beach scene with this exquisitely rendered
female figure. Layers of acrylic and oil
paint give the image texture, while the eye
is drawn in through repetitive patterns on
the woman's dress and in the foliage.

14. CENTRAL TAFE ART
Artist: Cecile Williams is one of the quiet
achievers in the Western Australian art
world. Based just outside Denmark, in
recent years her work has spanned from the
visual arts to theatre design and community
arts. Her sensitive handling of materials --
as well as her quirky and open narratives --
makes her works memorable and moving.

Peep was the centrepiece of the national
exhibition of works from the Kerry Stokes
Collection that went on show last year.
The Artwork: These assemblages give new
life to objects and detritus found washed
up on the beaches of Christmas Island.
Cecile constructs miniature worlds from
recycled plastic and old containers. Each
bit of flotsam has a story to tell and Cecile
is the narrator, inviting us to participate in
an intimate relationship with not only the
individual works, but the histories of the
Malay and Chinese people who live on this
remote island, as well as the refugees who
