"Even though it probably burnt for 24 hours before anyone found
it, the fire only burnt out one room because of the internal concrete,"
says Helen. "When they realised the concrete floor was higher they
started to shave back the concrete, which exposed the aggregate."
e floor shows the building's history with a mix of new and old
materials such as concrete and jarrah.
e old administration building consisted of a long hallway with
rooms on both sides. e floorboards run in different directions,
creating paths that expose where the original rooms once were.
"It went in our favour that the flooring was so weathered and
worn because the more it got knocked around, the more it added
to the tale of what we were doing. If the scaffolding fell and broke a
board then we would just cut a new piece and run the new piece of
board in the opposite way to the originals so you could see where
we had been," says Dane. "We were able to salvage flooring from
one of the other buildings and then we recycled flooring from
